I have been coming to CrossFit Beaumont for almost a year and a half now. I have had ups and downs with my physical fitness throughout my life, but since joining CrossFit Beaumont I have had my longest consecutive run of hitting my movement goals week after week. I first heard about CrossFit from my teammate, Rustee Landers. We both currently skate with Spindletop Rollergirls, and one practice she told me about an upcoming free week where I could try CrossFit.
I love that CrossFit is infinitely scalable to my abilities that day and that someone else does all the planning for me. There are many parts of my life that I love to plan, but sometimes I get decision fatigue. This is the one part of my life where I don’t have to plan anything, ever. All I have to do is show up and do what the coach tells me to. If that day’s workout calls for something that is outside my ability levels, the coach gives me different scaling options to meet the intent of the workout while staying within my current ability level. The first time I saw box jumps I was intimidated even by the smallest box, so the coach gave me a couple scaling options like jumping across a line on the floor or jumping onto a plate on the floor. From there I was able to build, and now I am comfortable jumping on the 24″ box.
For anyone reading this that thinks CrossFit isn’t something they can do or that they need to be in shape to try CrossFit, it is and you don’t have to be. We all have different abilities and we all come in and get a great workout together anyway.
