CFB/CFMC Competition July 9 – Also Starring The CFB Grand Re-Opening

 In WOD

Ladies & Gentlemen, boys and girls – On Saturday, July 9, we will be hosting a friendly competition that will be open to all CFB and CFMC members (as well as any CrossFit Boot Campers.) This will also coincide with the grand re-opening of CFB at our new location at MLK & South Street. The competition will begin at 9am and conclude around 4pm. We will continue to party with a Paleo cook-out; we urge everyone to bring some sort of Paleo-friendly dish. The cook-out and party will last until whenever we decide to stop partying! Feel free to bring any friends or family to hang out and watch.

We want this competition to be as inclusive as possible, therefore we are going to have three divisions – Standard, Intermediate, & Beginner. WE WANT EVERYONE TO COMPETE! This will be a very laid-back event. Everyone will be judging someone else. We will review the standards for each movement but it will be up to each athlete Here are the workouts to help you decide which division to compete in. If you know you can do all the movements in a division then sign yourself up!

WOD 1

3 Rounds:

10 Pull-Ups (Chest to bar/Chin Over Bar = RX) (Red Band Pull-Ups = Intermediate)(Ring Rows with toes under rings=Beginner)

10 Front Squats (145/85 = RX)  (115/65 = Intermediate) (75/35 = Beginner)

10 Burpees

WOD 2

As Fast As Possible Move From Ground To Overhead (5000#/3500# = RX) (4000/2500= Intermediate)(3000/1500=Beginner)

EX: You get to pick the weight of your barbell. If you are a standard male and you choose a 100# bar you have to complete 50 reps (100# X 50reps=5000#). If you choose a 135# bar you have to complete 37 reps. You can snatch or clean & jerk the weight. The minimum weights are as follows (95/45) (75/35)(55/25)

WOD 3

5 Rounds:

200m Run

5 Thrusters (53/35# Kettlebell Thrusters = RX) (35/20# Dumbbells = Intermediate)(20/10# Dumbbells = Beginner)

10 Kettlebell Swings (53/35= RX) (45/25 = Intermediate) (35/15=Beginner)

20 Double Unders (3x Singles for Intermediate) (2x Singles for Beginner)

If you want to sign up send an e-mail to both [email protected] AND [email protected]   In your email let us know what division you plan to be in. We may have to cap the number of athletes in each division so the quicker you sign up the sooner your spot is reserved. This will be a free event but if you’re going to stick around for the cook-out we ask that you please bring a dish. More information will be posted soon. If you have a question leave it in the comments.

    And the trash talk begins…

We’re allowing the CFMC men to sign up in the womens divisions to make things fair.

On the other hand, CFMC gets to send Jamie to the men’s bracket just to embarrass the CFB men.

A little nitpick: 37×135# = 4995#, I’d think you’d still need to lift a 5# plate to finish that WOD.

just make sure their guys sign up in at least the intermediate or beginners women to have a chance. dont think they could upset any of our standard women

So how do you know what bracket to compete in? 7-16-11 will be 2 months into my Crossfit adventure. Does that make me a beginner? :crossesfingers:

Jason you are a “Silverback in Training” & I am confident you will have earned Jr. Silverback status by mid July. In that case you may not compete in any division other than the standard Men’s.

Neal – you are sooooo funny!! Can CFMC competitors ground to overhead Neal 30X for the 2nd WOD?

Neal, you are sooooo funny. Can the CFMC competitors ground to overhead you 30x for the 2nd WOD?

Jason – Take a look at the weights and scaling options for the different divisions and choose the most difficult division where you can complete the movements with the given weights.

  • Neal

Alan – Yes, but you’d have to do 31 reps.

Sorry for the double post – Jason is trying to be funny – he is competing in the standard division.

Neal you are more than welcome to ground to overhead me 24x if you want

I’ll be out of town unless it gets moved to the 9th, but this sounds like so much fun! And I love that you posted the workouts and the weights, now it should be easy for people to figure out which division they want to compete in. Well, easy for the CFB members…. looks like the Mid County bunch is having some trouble deciding. I guess they’re scared.

@ Alan there are regular members at CFB that give the coaches a run for their money everyday of the week. If they are that elite to CFMC maybe the pony division is your spot. 😉 Im in!!!!! I wish there was a little more distance and a few less frontsquats throughout the day but it looks like fun.

From the emails I’ve received from people it looks like July 9th will be the date we are leaning towards. I’m sorry Sheree but so far you’re the only one that can’t make that date 🙁 We will make a decision by Thursday, June 16th so if you have a preference either way comment or email me.

@Jason. I think you’re right. I was thinking 125# Power snatches for 40 reps, but i might have a quicker time with 100#. Its only 10 more reps. I’ve never worked out with Alan, just coached him. Can’t wait to shake his hand then wipe the floor with him. Should be a good time. Diet is in check, 1 week fresh out of the Katy Competition…I feel good about this one.

I’m with those that vote for the 9th. My daughter will more than likely be going to a regional swim meet the weekend of the 16th.

Thanks to Neal for the invite. I think I am going to do intermediate due to just trying out WOD #1 and sucking at the front squats. I am with Jason, I wish there was more distance and less front squats. WOD #1 is tougher than it looks when trying to go all out on it.

The way I’m looking at it, I have weekness’s in the standard, but if I were to do intermediate, I would have to be scaling down every other movement. So, I’m going to push myself in the standard. I may fail completely, but at least I will be pushing myself as hard as I can. 🙂

  • Neal

Do the most difficult division you can while still being able to complete the workouts at the given weights and standards.

as neal said hardy and miranda. if you can do the movements. go for the highest division. being standard for both. i will struggle as well but can complete the movements so gotta do standard. and i know yall can do the same
